Prisoner Rights

One of the most fundamental rights that exists in any society is the right of security of the person. In the context of institutional incarceration, prisoners are kept out of sight and out of mind – yet their fundamental rights have not been extinguished.

The humane and dignified treatment of prisoners is a basic requirement of the rule of law.  Until democratic states figure out a more effective and humane way of rehabilitation of convicted criminals and reduction of recidivism, we are stuck with the abhorrent reality of prisons.
