The current system forces patients to commit a crime to consume the psilocybin that the government approved for them under the Special Access Program.

The government is currently authorizing psilocybin treatments under the Special Access Program but forcing patients to commit a crime to use the authorization.

To fix this, we submitted a request for a class exemption under s. 56(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for all patients who have received SAP authorization to be allowed to legally consume the psilocybin that was approved. There is already a class exemption for doctors and pharmacists, but patients were inexplicably left out.

For the sake of the many vulnerable patients, we ask the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions to grant the exemption quickly.
